Apartment on Mid-level

An Open-Planned Duplex Apartment in the Heart of Hong Kong

Inspired by the unique shape of the apartment, designer Alain Wong creates a stunning interior space that connects the family to the bustling cityscape.

This duplex apartment, located in the commercial center of Hong Kong, offers a breathtaking view of the city's skyscrapers. To fully embrace the view and natural light, the design takes an open approach, allowing most of the rooms to feel spacious and connected.

Wong drew inspiration from the apartment's shape and incorporated lines and angles to seamlessly connect the two levels. On the lower level, a line begins at the entrance, leading to a platform that defines the living and dining space. Another line decorates the base of the staircase, creating a visual connection with the kitchen.

Continuing from the bar table, a line guides the way up to the higher level of the apartment. As one ascends, the iconic Hong Kong skyline comes into view. The use of glass partitions in this room captures ample sunlight, transforming what was once a dim and crowded walkway.

To strike a balance between the commercial skyscrapers outside and the interior space, the design incorporates plenty of wood and light colors, creating a cozy and relaxing environment for the family.

The cooking space is also carefully designed with functionality in mind. It features an easy-to-handle layout that can be closed off completely when the family is enjoying a meal or used as an interactive space between the cook and guests.

What sets this design apart is its ability to connect the family to the cityscape that surrounds them. By using the lines of the apartment as a design element, Wong has created a unique and harmonious living space.

The design process involved close collaboration with the client to ensure their needs and preferences were met. The result is an interior that not only looks stunning but also functions exceptionally well.

This project, completed by the COMODO Interior Design team, took six months to realize. It is located on the mid-level of Hong Kong, offering residents a prime location in the heart of the city.

This design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2015 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This prestigious accolade recognizes designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
